Animation Music Plymouth Mash-up Open

The Competition

What is Young Motionplymouth?

Motionplymouth is an annual festival of moving image, screenings and installations. In 2007 it will be a week-long celebration of Plymouth’s moving image culture, running from November 12 to 17. Young Motionplymouth is the associated young people’s movie-making competition.

Young people are invited to produce work within the following categories:

  • Animation – anything from stop-motion to CGI effects
  • Music – pop promos or live events
  • Plymouth – a young person’s view of their city – fictional or documentary
  • Mash-up – entrants ‘remix’ footage supplied by the South West Film and TV Archive
  • Open category – anything goes

Films will be judged in the following age categories:

Under 7, under 12, under 14, under 19

Young people’s films will be exhibited at a glittering big-screen Oscar-style ceremony as part of Motionplymouth 2007, as well as on Motionplymouth and Local Authority websites.

How can I get involved?
The Motionplymouth Young People’s Movie Competition will be officially launched at Vue Cinema on the Barbican Leisure Park, Plymouth, on Monday March 19, from 4.30pm until 6pm, where you’ll find out all about the festival and the competition in more detail and see a selection of last year’s entries too.

How can I learn some skills?
There is a development opportunity for staff to increase their expertise in digital video-making and editing to support their students in entering the competition. This Staff Development Day will take place on 27th April and 4th May at the Plymouth Argyle Study Support Centre from 9am to 3pm

To sign up for either the Competition Launch or the Staff Development Day, or to express your interest in the Motionplymouth Young People’s Movie Competition, contact: Christine.Gill@plymouth.gov.uk
