 Plymouth Heroes Spring into Summer

It has been a very busy season, so far for MKC Heroes Plymouth Cluster.

The season began with our Armed Forces Day badge competition. We had hundreds of entries and the competition was won by Hero, Sophia Broome, aged 6. Sophia’s Daddy is in the Royal Navy. We hope to sell all 1000 badges to raise as much money as we can for the Poppy Appeal. Come and buy your badge from the MKC Heroes marquee on ArmedForces Day, the Hoe, June 24th 2017.

To say a huge thank you to our outgoing Lord Mayor, Pauline, the Military Kids choir gave a special concert to thank her and to thank al our volunteers and helpers. the choir families made wonderful cakes and our standard bearers and Ambassadors chaperoned the Lord Mayor and Naval Base Captain throughout the event.

Soloists performed alongside the whole choir membership and, at the end, we all joined in. Compere for the evening was Ambassador Rebekah.

Mums, dads and carers made all the cakes for the reception after the concert.

Before her term of office ended, the Lord Mayor invited MKC Heroes Plymouth to her parlour to receive a cheque to support the Plymouth cluster. This was a wonderful surprise. Rebecca and Lewis received the cheque on behalf of us all.

In late May Heather and Jono, our main volunteers, visited Cardiff City football stadium to speak at the Welsh schools conference for Service children. They told Wales about the MKC network and met some of our newest member schools who are building a Welsh Cluster.

Our standard bearers,: Jack; Alan; Lee and Harry accompanied the new Lord Mayor, Cllr Wendy Foster, at her service of dedication in the Minster church. Alan and Harry had already provided a guard of honour at her choosing ceremony  a few days before.

To complete the Lord Mayor’s celebrations, the choir accompanied by the standards, performed for the Lord Mayor at her exclusive VIP event, in the Lord Mayor’s parlour on Lord Mayors Day. They also paraded with her to the public stage and performed again for hundreds of people in the Plymouth Piazza.
